US Gov. Pass ‘Emergency’ Bill To Fine Protesters $1 Million Dollars
A new statute has been signed into law allowing authorities to arrest and fine protesters up to $1 million dollars in an “emergency” measure to counter opposition to the construction of oil pipelines.
The law was rushed to the Oklahoma governor’s desk, which authorities say will prevent Diamond Pipeline protesters from delaying its construction.
Anybody caught trespassing on property considered containing a “critical infrastructure facility” will “face a felony and a minimum $10,000 fine if a court determines they entered property intending to damage, vandalize, deface, ‘impede or inhibit operations of the facility.’ Should the trespasser actually succeed in ‘tampering’ with the infrastructure, they face a $100,000 fine or 10 years of imprisonment.”
